What is Keratin:
Keratin is a fibrous protein found naturally in the hair. It acts as a protective shield against humidity, the primary cause of frizz. Over time, the hair loses keratin from exposure to the sun, the environment, styling and chemical services. Porous spots develop in this damaged hair, much like potholes in a road.
Keratin Complex Smoothing Therapy treatments give the hair shine, strength, smoothness and elasticity.

How does it work:
By replenishing lost keratin, Keratin Complex Smoothing Therapy treatments help repair damage, lock out humidity to reduce unwanted frizz, and give the hair increased manageability and styling versatility. Our signature Keratin Complex Smoothing Therapy helps to rebuild strength and restore smoothness and elasticity to the hair, giving it a more youthful, healthy appearance.

Straightening vs. Smoothing:
Conventional straighteners or relaxers may break the protein bonds within the hair’s structure, causing each strand to reform into a permanently straight shape. Keratin Complex Smoothing Treatment is different. The revolutionary technology does not break the hair’s bonds, instead delivering the versatility of smoother, healthier-looking hair that can be styled wavy or straight as desired. Keratin Complex’s signature keratin works effectively on all hair types. Our unique Smoothing Therapy treatments contain high concentrations of keratin that penetrate throughout the hair structure, and then are sealed within the cortex to repair damage.

Is your hair aged/grey? If so, choose your level…
To choose your proper grey level compare your current amount of
grey/white hair to the chart below.
Why is “knowing your grey” important?
When hair begins to lose its natural pigmentation, many issues begin.
First, you will notice your virgin strands of hair starting to lose their natural color.
The hair will begin to look white or greyish.
Second, your hair will appear and begin to feel dry, brittle, and wiry/frizzy.
Third, you will begin to notice your hair care products not working the same, your hair color not covering as well or lasting as long, and your heat styling results falling short of your expectations.
Knowing your level of grey helps when choosing the right color, treatments, styling products, and heat regimen.

Note: We generally always recommend Keratin Complex Original or Blonde treatments when a client has visible signs of grey hair issues.
Understanding your Hairs Texture/Curl Pattern:
Depending on the treatment you choose, Keratin Complex Smoothing Treatments
have the ability to temporarily reduce your hairs texture
and curl pattern by up to 4 levels.
Choose your starting point and your ideal curl level, to see if Keratin Complex Smoothing Treatments are right for you. If you are looking for a straightening system, or more than 4 levels or curl reduction, Keratin treatments are not what you want.

Note: Factors such as level of grey, damage level, and
mineral/product build up, may hinder your desired results.
Learning about your Hairs Porosity Level:
In order for Keratin Complex Smoothing Treatments to give your hair the best results, we need to know your current porosity level.
There are three porosity levels to choose from: low, normal (medium), and high.
Low porosity hair has a tightly bound cuticle that makes it difficult for moisture, products, and chemicals to penetrate and release. Products normally sit on the hair causing a lot of product build up. Your hair will normally take a while to get fully wet and you may notice little water beads of your hair while washing. This shows how hard water is working to get into your hair cuticles. Your hair may also take a long time to dry.
NOTE: If this is your hairs type, a keratin treatment would be great for you, however it may take several sessions for your hair to reach its full potential.

Normal (medium) porosity is the easiest to manage and does not require much repair, as it absorbs the right amount of moisture/color.
NOTE: Normal/Medium Porosity hair will receive the best Keratin Complex Treatment outcome and the longest lasting results.

High porosity hair typically has a cuticle that has been chipped away due to damage from over manipulation, chemicals, or excessive heat styling. High porosity can also be genetic. If this is your hair type it means your hairs cuticles are fully open and can absorb moisture really easily but does not retain moisture. High porosity hair may tangle really easily because all the cuticles are getting caught on to each other. Your hair can tend to dry extremely fast and the hair may always be frizzy.
NOTE: High porosity hair LOVES keratin treatments and you will probably be instantly satisfied, however the treatment tends to fade off quicker. Keep up with your treatments often to repair the damage and restore your hairs health.
Test Your Hair Strands:
You can test the porosity of your hair by simply taking a few strands of your clean product-free hair and placing them in a bowl of room temperature water.
Keep an eye on it for up to 5 minutes.
HIGH: If your hair sinks right away,
your porosity is high as it absorbed all of the water quickly.

LOW: If your hair doesn’t sink at all after 5 minutes,
your porosity is low as it hasn’t absorbed the water.

NORMAL/MEDIUM: If your hair sinks slowly over the course of 5 minutes,
your porosity is normal/medium.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q: Should the hair be colored before or after the treatment application?

A: A great time to have the treatment done is directly after permanent color, semi-permanent color or highlights have been performed. The treatment seals the color in, making it last longer and appear more vibrant. If you choose to have color applied after the treatment, we recommend waiting at least two weeks.

Note: It is not recommended to highlight your hair after a
Keratin treatment has been performed, as you risk taking out your Keratin.
*In some cases we will recommend a Keratin treatment before highlights
if the hair has been severely compromised or damaged.
This is up to the discretion of your stylist.

Q: Should the hair be cut before or after the treatment?

A: We recommend that the final haircut be done after the treatment, as the hair will have a smoother texture and will lie differently. The treatments will also help to show areas that are in need of a cut.

Q: Can the treatments be done on permed, relaxed or straightened hair?

A: Yes; in fact, the Keratin Complex treatments work to repair damage caused by other chemical treatments. It is recommended to wait a minimum of two weeks after any chemical straightening/curl services, before receiving a Keratin treatment.

Q: What should be done if the hair gets wet during the processing period?

A: As soon as possible blow-dry the hair until completely dry and then, only if needed, flat iron with low to medium heat until completely straight again.

Q: How often can the smoothing treatments be performed?

A: The treatment can be done as often as every 2 to 4 weeks.

Q: Is the reapplication of the smoothing treatment done on the entire head or just on the new growth?
A: Reapplication is done on the entire head, as the treatment will naturally fade off of the hair.

Q: Can you apply Keratin Complex Smoothing Treatments over hair that has been colored with Henna?

A: We do not recommend a Keratin Treatment over Henna dyed hair.

Note: Henna creates a coating on the hair shaft which prevents
chemical treatments from properly penetrating the shaft.
Applying Keratin treatments on hair previously treated with
henna or metallic dyes will dramatically lift or lighten your hair color,
and the Keratin treatment may not be able to properly penetrate the hair.

Q: Does Keratin Complex Smoothing Treatments contain any harmful chemicals?

A: Per the Keratin Complex "Saftey Data Sheet" they are Federal + OSHA compliant.
