For some the decision to have hair extensions fitted is a simple one. Why wait years for your natural hair to grow, when all you may end up with is a long scraggly mess, full of split ends and other hair horrors, when you can have a gorgeous long head of silky smooth and healthy hair right now. Others though may have some reservations. This web site will hopefully answer all your questions and help you to make an informed decision.

Lets start with the hair.

Why choose Vixen hair ?

Well everything starts with the raw material. This can vary enormously depending on where in the world it originates. There are basically three different regions where the hair used in the hair extension industry is sourced, namely Europe, Asia and India.

European Hair - Without doubt the best suited to Caucasian heads but much rarer and extremely expensive. To give an example 1kg of European Remy hair on the world market costs around $12,000 retail, depending on exchange rates at the time. That works out to roughly $3,000 for enough to do an average head of hair. And that is not taking into account the 3 - 4 hours of labour for the salon to install it !
Because of the prohibitive expense almost all hair used within the industry comes from the following two regions.

Indian Hair - The least expensive of all and the most common. Hair from this region tends to be very coarse and therefore tends to look 'out of place' in a Caucasian head. More importantly because of its increased weight it can place too much stress upon the thinner hair of the customer when they are bonded together, no matter what system is used. It is also very susceptible to matting and is prone to lose its shine within a fairly short period of time.
Because of it's plentiful supply and enormous cost benefits many hair extension companies use hair that originates here (although few admit it). Many salons are sold hair that is purported to be Asian or European (and charged accordingly) when all along they are getting the worst possible material. Another trick some companies use is to blend a mixture of Indian and Asian, the Indian being used to 'pad out' the better quality Asian and increase the weight. No hair used by Vixen comes from this region.

Asian Hair - The closest to European hair but without the expense. Very fine and well suited to Caucasian heads it also accepts colour processing treatments well, keeping it's condition much longer than Indian hair. It also lasts longer in the head because of the lighter weight and therefore reduced stress placed on the bonds. All hair used by Vixen is carefully selected from sources in this region.

Choosing hair from the right region is only half the story though. Another important factor to consider is how the hair is collected.
If you look at the image below you will see a strand of hair magnified to show the cuticles. They look like waves, all 'flowing' in the same direction. It is important that the hair you are having fitted into you head is the same, with every single strand of hair having the cuticles running in the same direction, just like it grows naturally. This ensures that the integration between your own hair and the extensions being fitted is as seamless as possible.

The only way this can be guaranteed is if the hair is cut from the head as opposed to collected as it is brushed out.
Hair collected this way is called Remy hair. All hair used by Vixen is guaranteed 100% Remy.

Ok, so Vixen hair is great. . . . . but what about the person fitting it ?

It's no good having great quality hair if the person installing it is less than competent. Unlike other Hair Extension suppliers we only sell our hair to reputable, established hair salons.
